Strukton achieves level 5 on the ProRail CO2 performance ladder
02 | 07 | 2010
UTRECHT, 2 July 2010 – As of 1 July, Strukton is certified for level 5 on the ProRail CO2 performance ladder. Although Strukton Rail had already been certified at the highest level previously, this marks the entire group’s achievement of the highest level. Strukton is hereby the first entire group to be certified at the highest level.
Measuring instrument for climate-conscious operations Since December 2009, ProRail has rewarded contractors with climate-conscious operations. ProRail evaluates this using the so-called CO2 performance ladder, a measuring instrument that reflects the extent to which companies have insight into their own carbon footprint, take measures to reduce their CO2 emissions and take the initiative to reduce the CO2 emissions in the supply chain.
Competitive advantage The better a company meets the requirements, the higher the company stands on the CO2 performance ladder. A high score on the ladder is rewarded with a higher virtual discount on projects, in short: a competitive advantage. The certificate for level 5 is good for a virtual discount of 10% on tenders.
Quickly achieved Strukton has had an operational CSR policy for a number of years, and this has allowed the group to reach the highest level so quickly. Examples of the company’s initiatives include an implemented energy management system and a self-imposed annual emissions reduction target of 2% (compared with the previous year). Suppliers are also closely involved with this initiative, because they provide a crucial contribution to the reduction of the CO2 emissions. The majority of suppliers have now been approached with a sustainability statement and well over half of them have signed and returned the statement.
Strukton also participates in various sector initiatives. For example, Strukton is a partner of MVO Nederland and is actively participating in Stichting Urgenda’s electric driving tender, which aims to have at least one million electric cars on the road in the Netherlands by 2020.
