The product of enterprise and innovation
In 1918, the Dutch Railways (NS) needed a new head office, but was unable to find a suitable contractor. So the NS decided to take on the task themselves. An own forest, own brickworks, a provisional department that was charged with the construction of HGB III (head building 3), popularly known as the ‘inkpot’, due to its form. The building still stands near Utrecht Central Station, and has moreover acquired the status of ‘listed building’.
Mergers and name changes
This success prompted the establishment in 1921 of NV Spoorwegbouwbedrijf. In 1974, following a merger with the Danish construction company, the name was changed to Strukton Group.
